Program VisionDiversity and inclusivity in technology have been core values at iDev. The iDev Fellowship program aims to break hidden barriers in the tech industry, providing real-world project experience for developers from non-traditional computer science backgrounds, economically disadvantaged regions, and underrepresented groups. Each Fellow receives a monthly stipend of $2,000 and full access to learning resources.Program StructureThe six-month Fellowship has three phases. The first two months focus on technical foundations, covering backend development, cloud-native architecture, and DevOps practices. Months three and four pair each Fellow with a senior iDev engineer for one-on-one mentorship, working on real product development iterations. The final two months are devoted to a capstone project where Fellows independently or in teams build an open source project and present it publicly.Initial Applications and ResponseIn the first week after the announcement, iDev received over 2,800 applications from 42 countries and regions, with Southeast Asia comprising the largest share. Forty-five percent of applicants identified as women developers, and 28% were self-taught programmers without formal CS degrees. These numbers confirm enormous demand for inclusive programs of this kind.Long-term ImpactFellowship graduates receive priority hiring consideration at iDev and industry reference letters. iDev plans to invest $500,000 annually to sustain the program and will encourage an alumni community for peer support and tech sharing, creating a sustainable positive cycle.
